Results are in from our 2014-2015 Watershed Stewardship Program for the San Diego River in Alpine.... Cumulative tally of our measurable progress to-date:
40 properties cleared of invasive and highly flammable Arundo donax, totalling 4.5 acres of Arundo canopy cover, and 21,865 pounds of trash and hazardous debris removed from Alpine's creeks and streams leading into the San Diego River and the El Capitan Reservoir (City of San Diego potable water supply).

Thanks to all of our funders, agency partners, volunteers, and local non-profit groups for supporting this important program!

Helping our local Alpine girl scout troop to earn their Bronze Award this year, BCLT is proud to announce that we've officially begun restoration of a small section of our native California bunch grass habitat at Wright's Field MSCP Preserve in Alpine. This quarter-acre section of our beautiful grassland habitat will be restored to it's pre-historic ecosystem, with native bunch grasses and wild flowers predominating, and will serve as a visual demonstration of the grasslands that the Kumeyaay Indians saw when they arrived over 8,000 years ago at the place we now call Wright's Field.

Since 1990, BCLT has been preserving San Diego's rural heritage, open space landscapes, and wildlife habitat for all to enjoy.

In 2015, we are celebrating 25 years of BCLT's efforts, and the dedication and hard work of the individuals, communities, and organizations that have made it possible to protect more than 6,000 acres of eastern San Diego's "Back Country" lands for future generations.

We hope you'll join us for a year of reflection on our successes, and looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that await us in the years to come!
