Recently, Back Country Land Trust reached an important milestone in our goal to protect and restore native habitat at Wright’s Field Preserve in Alpine.... Removing the last major "legacy trash" since BCLT began managing this land as a Nature Preserve in 1990!

Working witCarRemoval1 2h local Alpine business owner Howard Findley of Pioneer Landscape, who volunteered his time and equipment to make this project possible, BCLT pulled the rusted shell of a 1969 Chevy Impala out of the creek channel that flows through Wright’s Field, feeding Alpine Creek and eventually the El Capitan Reservoir.

Abandoned nearly 40 years ago, this car and much of the debris    was left behind in the aftermath of the 1970 Laguna Fire that burned through what is now Wright’s Field was left to rust around a residence destroyed in the blaze.

With the support of community volunteers like Howard, who donate their time and effort each year, Back Country Land Trust has been able to maintain and improve conditions at Wright’s Field over many years.

Recent projects include clearing trails, repairing erosion damage, removing non-native plants, and enhancing users’ recreational experiences by restoring a pristine natural environment with a deep ecology and unique history.

Removing this final legacy trash signifies a new era for Wright’s Field. One that we are happy to usher in with a strong sense of community support for BCLT's work and mission, and with a hopeful future for the environmental health of this beautiful and abundant ecosystem in the heart of Alpine.

Email us if you'd like to learn more, or to get involved in future projects to restore landscapes in San Diego's Back Country.

Alpine Beer_Co_Raffle_2013San Diego Earth Fair in Balboa Park

Every year in April, 75,000 people descend on Balboa Park for San Diego's Earth Fair event. BCLT was there again this         year with our booth displaying our amazing Back Country conservation lands, from Alpine to Potrero.

This year, one of our local businesses and partners, Alpine Beer Company, generously donated a $25 gift card and t-shirt for a fun raffle drawing at our EarthFair booth!  Thank you so much to everyone at Alpine Beer Co. for helping out, and for making such delicious food & beverages!

Congratulations to Tom & Mara, our Earth Day raffle prize winners!  We hope you'll enjoy the great outdoors along with your gifts from Alpine Beer Company...
