Mountain Empire

BCLT’s goals for the Mountain Empire properties are to establish habitat management approaches that will sustain biological resources and provide for the long-term maintenance, preservation and enhancement of the land.

BCLT’s properties in Potrero and Campo will be retained indefinitely in their natural conditions.  Activities on the properties are focused primarily on the preservation, restoration and enhancement of native species and their habitats.

Clover Flat

About 5 miles northeast of the town of Campo in San Diego County, Clover Flat is a 2 mile long valley with surrounding hills of chaparral dominated by chamise. Coast live oak flourishes along tributaries and shaded slopes. Desert transition vegetation and big sagebrush are also abundant. Willow is scattered throughout local wetland areas and a prominent former drainage of the Miller Creek aquifer.  The historic Carrizo Gorge Railway loops through the property.

Long Potrero

Long Potrero is an 1800 acre property in the southeast of San Diego county, located approximately 5 miles southwest of Lake Morena and 4 miles north of the U.S. border with Mexico.  It provides preservation and management for impacts to seven sensitive vegetation communities: chaparral, coastal sage scrub, grassland, freshwater wetlands and streams, riparian forest and scrub, and woodlands.
